More than 30 young business owners attended an Entrepreneur’s Day event, which focused on the development and sustainability of small businesses from in and around the Springbok area. Held on 14 October 2022, at the Springbok Sports Grounds Hall, Northern Cape, this event was funded by Kangnas Wind Farm and forms part of a broader and ongoing development initiative aimed at assisting small local business owners.
“We found that when Requests For Quotes / Proposals are sent out to local SMME’s, most of them are not compliant and therefore miss out on funding opportunities. Kangnas Wind Farm wants to support businesses so that they can grow as well as expand opportunities within their own communities,” explained Rouchet Daniels, Economic Development Manager for Kangnas Wind Farm.
This annual event provides entrepreneurs with opportunities to achieve compliance, learn from different stakeholders such as the Department of Labour, as well as gain insights into the internal processes of these stakeholders. In addition to compliance and funding, entrepreneurs further can explore how the services provided by each stakeholder can assist them.
“During the event, I was able to meet with a few of the stakeholders who can help me grow my business, including the banks, who can support me with establishing a business bank account and financing opportunities,” said Rebecca Shadad, who is a small business owner and beneficiary of this programme.
Stakeholders present at the event included the Department of Labour; Mme Re Ke Thuse; JLK Business Consulting; Standard Bank; ABSA Bank; HP Roesh- Accountant Office; Dippenaar Ellis, Accountant Office; BVI; SEDA; Elevate Multimedia Agency; Namakwa Chamber of Commerce; Phakamani Funds; and the Namakwa District Mayor.
Additionally, Kangnas Wind Farm will host workshops in all eight local towns to explain their grant funding and application process.
