The Noupoort community came together to celebrate the 100th birthday of one of its most cherished members, Sara Thomas, fondly known as Ouma Fytjie. Born on August 23, 1923, on Arundel Farm close to the town, she has been an integral part of this community for more than 70 years, where she is known for her care and commitment to the lives of others.
Ouma Fytjie’s life has been one of selflessness and community building. She has helped raise numerous children, many of whom have gone on to achieve remarkable success in the fields of education and health. Her legacy of kindness and dedication has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the Noupoort community and beyond.
“Ouma Fytjie’s remarkable journey through life has touched the hearts of all who know her. She has been an integral part of the our community, and her enduring spirit and contributions are celebrated with great enthusiasm,” said Sandisiwe Mntonintshi, Economic Development Manager for Noupoort Wind Farm, which generously sponsored this momentous occasion in partnership with the Inam Inkosi Home for Elderly and Sick People and South African Social Security Agency (SASSA).
The festivities included a heartwarming lunch at a local restaurant, a beautifully crafted birthday cake, a skilled photographer capturing precious moments, and thoughtful birthday gifts.
