A social impact programme, which has impacted over 7,000 learners over the past five years, has once again made a meaningful difference in the lives of grade 1 learners. This year, over 2000 learners across 17 primary schools in the Sol Plaatje and Dikgatlong Local Municipalities received brand-new school bags, as part of a Back-to-School initiative.
This programme, funded by Matla A Bokone Solar, aims to instill pride, boost self-esteem, and instill a spirit of enthusiasm for learning in young learners as they begin their journey into “Big School”.
“The excitement on the faces of the learners upon receiving their brand-new school bags was a testament to the significance of this initiative. Matla A Bokone Solar has been such a thoughtful sponsor to us. We will forever remain grateful for this continued support,” said Memoria Duze, an educator at Flamingo Primary School.
Furthermore, the initiative stimulated a local, black woman-owned SMME, creating temporary employment for two youths, thereby achieving triple the impact – empowering learners, supporting local businesses, and creating job opportunities.
“This support aligns with the country’s constitutional commitment to education as a basic right under Section 29 of the Constitution. By collaborating with the Department of Education, local suppliers, and other stakeholders, this initiative ensures that no child is left behind due to a lack of resources,” said Lesego Mosiane, Social Performance Practitioner for Matla A Bokone Solar.
Schools benefiting from this initiative include: Sol Plaatje Primary School, St Peters Primary School, Floors North Primary School, Progress Primary School, Isago Primary School, Tshiamo Primary School, Molebahangwe Primary School, Monsthiwa Primary School, Flamingo Primary School, Beacon Primary School, Tshwarelela Primary School, Delportshoop Intermediate School, Pniellandgoed Primary School, Letshego Primary School, Lucretia Primary School, Roodepan Primary School, and Mosalakae Primary School.
