The Witzenberg area and its communities are benefiting from a focused economic transformation strategy that is driving sustainable growth and empowerment. As part of this commitment, Perdekraal East Wind Farm has significantly improved its Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) status, advancing from a BEE Level 8 rating in 2023 to BEE Level 6 in 2024. This progress reflects the wind farm’s ongoing efforts to enhance economic inclusion, support local enterprises, and create meaningful opportunities for the region’s communities.
“This achievement is a direct result of our comprehensive approach to economic transformation, which includes local job creation, skills development, procurement strategies, socio-economic development, enterprise development, and supplier development. These initiatives form a holistic strategy aimed at fostering long-term, sustainable growth within the Witzenberg Municipality,” explained Gwynne-Lee Borcherds, Economic Development Manager for Perdekraal East Wind Farm.
The wind farm’s economic development team has worked closely with the plant team to design and implement targeted supplier development programmes. These initiatives focus on compliance, upskilling local suppliers and service providers, and enhancing service delivery to the wind farm.
By investing in education and skills training, the wind farm is actively shaping a workforce that can contribute meaningfully to the local economy.
“As we continue on this path of economic transformation, our focus remains on creating meaningful opportunities that empower individuals and businesses within our community. This achievement reflects our dedication to inclusive growth and long-term impact,” concluded Borcherds.
